Gabriela Lascombes
It is right not to consider this text as a strict art criticism. In this case, the writer’s appraisal is that of a painter and not that of an art critic. This preliminary explanation may, perhaps, found or justify my judgment of the paintings in this exhibition.

I was invited by Gabriela Lascombes to her agreeable place of work to see her paintings. The luminous place allowed me to appreciate what will certainly be observed with high criterion by the spectator: a healthy and less frequent impetus of mature youth.

This affirmation, on one hand, rejects any similitude with common attitudes proper of the precariousness of our times; and, on the other hand, shows “daring”, virtuous but difficult.

Virtuous, for it should be applauded the young spirit that risks in dialogue with the surface, either with an exceeding expressionism, or, I believe, in her best moments with reminiscence of oriental calligraphy. But always with light unity and meritorious maturity in the organization of the plane. Difficult, as “daring” often faces obstacles that G.L. elegantly overcomes thanks to her freshness in doing, knowledge and the sincerity of her expression.

For all this, after my visit to her studio I returned to my daily work gratified. This same feeling will surely be shared by all those who observe her paintings with the attention they deserve.
